Subject: Loss of a Great Friend

To echo what Terry Gray posted ; on Saturday, 7 July, the birding community lost a great friend.
Carole Vande Voorde died at her daughter's home at Albuquerque.
Among her many notable accomplishments was the development and maintenance of the Asotin Slough Habitat Management Unit.
In cooperation with the Army Corps of Engineers, Carole insured that this important area along the Snake River South of Asotin would be preserved for the public and maintained as an important bird habitat.
With her late husband, Hank, she established the trail of many nest boxes along the Snake River.

An accomplished birder, Carole birded each of Washington's counties in addtion to traveling worldwide for the love of birding.

As a founding member and long time Chairwomen of the Canyon Birders, Carole was responsible for many field trip throughout the Northwest and introduced scores of new birders to the joys of birding.

Carole was also a Master Gardner, helping to educate many new gardners over the years.
She and Hank maintained their lovely home in Asotin as a showplace for birders and botanists alike.

Carole will be missed by many of us and remain in our memories for years.
