First thanks Judy for the great directions. We found the spot and five
Black-backs stripping bark. We followed the track up into the burn and then
their calls. Also heard two Pileated, and spotted numerous Junco, Towhee and
Pigmy and White-breasted Nuthatches. We also spotted a moose on the second
day walking up the hill below up and passed above us before going over the
ridge.
Driving around Little Pend Oreille NWR we spotted and heard numerous
warblers and at the Headquarters spotted Red-naped Sapsucker, as well as
Calipee and Black-chinned Hummers.
Talking to the Biologist (who had just returned from a butterfly count) told
us if you take the road past the gate further into the burn you would
probably see even more woodpecker activity.
