Hello, tweets.

I last posted about Red-breasted Sapsuckers in my yard back in May, and I thought they were gone for the season. But today an adult brought a juvenile to our sapsucker tree (European birch), so I assume they bred somewhere in the neighborhood. I was told yesterday that there were more of them than usual breeding on Bainbridge Island this year, and I wonder what influences their populations to wax or wane. Is the world getting sappier?

A flicker brought its young to the yard at the same time, and it was pretty exciting.
