Dr. ROBERT RIDGELY, Dr. PAUL SALAMAN & NICHOLE BAKER of the WORLD LAND TRUST-US will be at the Pike Place Market this Wednesday the 18thfrom 5:30 to 7:30 pm. These are three people who live their lives at ground zero in the struggle to save biodiversity in the hemisphere.
Dr. Ridgely has been called the World?s leading authority on the Birds of South America, and indeed, he wrote the book, as well as ?Birds of Ecuador? and ?Birds of Panama.?He is a founder of Foundation Jocotoco in Ecuador.? Paul Salaman has discovered four new species and rediscovered several others thought to be extinct.He has been instrumental in the founding of a National Park and 4 private preserves in Colombia and a founder of Pro Aves in Colombia.Nichole Baker wanted no mention of herself in the promotional literature, she only does the most important job?keepingthe World Land Trust-US in donations.
This is our chance to make a at least a tiny difference in a crucial arena of the fight against extinction and to meet some amazingly remarkable people in the process.
The Open House is at my recently-enlarged store.It?s there because Nichole asked if they could take Delia and me to dinner and we thought we didn?t deserve that and should instead do something for them.The store is at the Pike Place Market, one door in from the Newsstand at 1stand Pike St. in downtown Seattle.
