Three weeks ago I took a trip into the Okanagan Cascades and Highlands. We
had a great time but several warblers were notably missing. We never saw or
heard a Townsend's, or a McGillivrays. I have always had both around Loop
Loop at that time of year. Plenty of Yellows and Audubon's and one or two
Nashville but nothing else.

Back home in Port Townsend I finally saw my first Orange - crowned of the
year - there have usually been lots around here. Likewise Wilson's. I also
failed to find Hermit or Townsend's on Mount Walker where I have always
seen them in past years.

Is it a very sparse year for some warblers, and if so is there any theory
as to why?
