Hey tweets, Fall migration is in full swing at the Fill. Today there
were a Greater Yellowlegs, Long-billed Dowitcher, and at least 3 Least
Sandpipers on Shoveler's Pond and Main Pond.

The yellowlegs and dowitcher were particularly fun. The dowitcher
arrived yesterday and must have been nervous about migrating all
alone, so it stayed very close to the yellowlegs. Every time the
yellowlegs ran somewhere new, the dowitcher scampered behind. When the
yellowlegs flew across the pond, so did the dowitcher. When the
yellowlegs strode into the willows, so did the dowitcher. Out again,
ditto. North end of pond, yep. A quick trip to Shoveler's Pond, no
problemo.

With the yellowlegs so tall and attenuated, and the dowitcher so short
and plump, it was like watching Don Quixote and Sancho Panza on a
miniature plain in Spain. I have a feeling that if the dowitcher could
have spoken, it would have subscribed to Panza's philosophy about
staying out of trouble: Whether the pot hits the pitcher, or the
pitcher hits the pot, it's bound to be bad for the pitcher. - Connie,
