Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday July 26. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at

On July 20 a possible female PAINTED BUNTING was seen at Oak Island on
Sauvie Island. An adult RED-NECKED STINT was photographed July 23 at the
South Jetty of the Siuslaw River. A possible YELLOW-BILLED LOON was seen
July 23 off Klootchman Wayside south of Florence. The conspicuous male
INDIGO BUNTING continues at the Sandy River Delta. A hybrid INDIGO/LAZULI
BUNTING is being seen in Eugene.

Large numbers of RED CROSSBILLS continue along the coast, with some
movements being reported. Smaller numbers are being reported from interior
Western Oregon. TATTLERS, SUFBIRDS, and BLACK TURNSTONES are now appearing
along the coast.

On July 19 a breeding plumaged RED-NECKED GREBE was at Yachats. A
RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was at the Hatfield Science Center July 19 On July 20 an
EASTERN KINGBIRD was south of Seaside. A VESPER SPARROW is now being seen
along Goodspeed Road at Tillamook. A STILT SANDPIPER was near the Astoria
Airport July 23. An ELEGANT TERN was at the South Jetty of the Columbia
River July 20 but has not been relocated.

Single BLACK PHOEBES were at Jackson Bottom and the Fernhill Wetlands during
the week. A GREATER SCAUP was at Jackson Bottom July 22. That day two
WRENTITS were seen in Gopher Valley north of Sheridan. A SANDHILL CRANE was
at Finley NWR July 20. A SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER and three SEMIPALMATED
SANDPIPERS were at Fern Ridge Reservoir July 18. On July 20 two BLACK SWIFT
nests were seen at Salt Creek Falls with adults on each.

On July20 a SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER, BLACK-NECKED STINT, and a SHORT-BILLED
DOWITCHER were at Hatfield Lake near Bend. A BLACK SWIFT was seen July 18
among a group of WHITE-THROATED SWIFTS over the Redmond Sewage Ponds. A
WHIMBREL was there July 25. On July 18 a SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER was along
Ruh-Red Road at Malheur NWR. An adult BAIRD?S SANDPIPER was there July 24.
On July 19 a SNOWY OWL was along Zumwalt Road east of Enterprise. It was
seen between Pine Road and Johnson Lane.
