If the Port of Everett follows the lead of the Port of Bellingham (POB), the terns will be looking for yet another location next year.

I monitored the colony here in 2010 for four and a half months and I saw what the POB did last year to keep the terns from nesting, again. I documented the two years in a power point presentation if anyone's interested (have presentation-will travel).
Not only did the POB employ passive deterrent measures but they also actively harassed the birds that tried to nest. I reported their actions to state and federal wildlife agencies but no one did a thing to stop it.

I grew quite fond of the CATEs, spending quite a bit of time with them through the summer and into September, sitting on my stool just 100' away from the colony. The daily activity of these magnificent birds in a large breeding colony was delightful to me. The action of the POB was a real heartbreaker.
