Subject: [Tweeters] bee-eating tanagers, osprey at night

This morning at 8 am, three western tanagers, two males and one
female, were swooping back and forth in my back yard. It didn't take
long to assess that they were having breakfast at my beehives. I have
regularly seen Steller's jays hanging out by the hives, but was happy
to discover that I have a tanager magnet, too.

While I'm writing, here's an osprey observation I meant to post early.
On Tue 5/29 around 6 pm, I saw and heard an osprey calling above my
back yard (near the ship canal). I see osprey around here from time to
time, but seldom in my neighborhood, and seldom calling. At 10 pm that
night, I again heard calling osprey, this time so frequently I
wondered whether I was hearing more than one bird. On Wed 5/30 at 9
am, I again saw and heard a calling osprey above my house. Not alarm
calls, just calling, and definitely osprey. What's up with that?
