Dear Tweeters,
I've noticed that some folks seem to be missing the Black-throated
Sparrow(s) along Recreation Dr. in Vantage. After much searching, I
was able to find two of them on 20 May and thought I'd post more
specific directions. To look for the Sparrow, I drove 0.4 miles down
Recreation Dr. from Vantage Hwy, and parked near a gated trailhead on
the west side of the road. At that trailhead, there are two paths,
one that heads downhill, to a very birdy patch along the arroyo, and
one that heads uphill, to seemingly less birdy habitat. The Black-
throated Sparrows were along the upper path, about 300 yards from
Recreation Dr. The birds were especially difficult to find, since
they were silent. An odd contrast to their very vocal Amphispiza
cousins on the east side of Recreation Dr., the Sage Sparrows. If you
have a GPS, the location of the birds was 46.9543N 120.0011W. I'm not
sure if the birds have a large roaming territory, but perhaps this
will help some folks find the birds.

Cheers,
