Yesterday was my first visit to the Kent Ponds which a?successful?day at a nice location. ?Saw one LAZILI BUNTING (life bird, yeah!) and heard two others singing so there are three to choose from. ?The most likely to show seems to be the one that is defending his territory on your left just as you enter the area by the first observation tower. ?Another is in the hedge row area to the right of the tower and the third is out on the main trail (paved) around the power line tower ?before the observation tower entrance. ?Both are off the trail and since you are supposed to stay on the trail they are hard to pick out. ?The one by the observation tower entrance comes and goes from a small evergreen and seems to stay in that general area. ?If it isn't around when you get there hang out for a while. ?There was a man who was there when I arrived with a long lens. ?He had only been there a few minutes and had been shown where to look. ?He didn't stay
long and of course the bird showed up soon there after. ? They do seem to stop singing around 2-2:30 PM so best to get there earlier. ?

Also seen: ?RED HEAD,?CINNAMON?TEAL,??A. COOT, MALLARD, N. FLICKER, STELLAR JAY, COMMON YELLOW THROAT, SONG SPARROW, SAVANNA SPARROW, WHITE CROWNED SPARROW, RED TAIL HAWKS, CEDAR WAX-WINGS, GB?HEROIN, TREE and VIOLET GREEN SWALLOWS, VAUX SWIFT, COW BIRD, RW BLACKBIRD, STARLING, and of course lots of CROWS and ROBINS. ?

The main?entrances to the pond area are?off 64 th and someone earlier asked if there were other?entrances. ?There are several other?entrances?off Russell Rd. which is a savanna type of area. ?On 212th?coming?down the hill from I-5 (your left) Russell Rd appears to be closed but it isn't. ?It's closed to trucks because one lane is blocked by a temporary dike but car traffic can still go through to access the park. ?I parked in the main park parking lot where there are restrooms and water.?

I was told that there are A. EAGLES that perch on the power line poles by the river off 200th and are most often seen hunting in the mornings but there weren't there when I arrived at 11 AM. ?
