Tweets, With the upper Skagit a hotspot these days, birders might consider
checking Concrete airport. I birded there with fair frequency as a beginner
in highschool in the early 70s. Best birds were Say's Phoebe pair and Mtn
Bluebird flock in early spring, Lark Sparrow late spring. Due to whatever
vegetation suppression was used at the time, the airport offered an open
habitat unique to the vicinity. I haven't been back for decades so have no
idea what's there now or whether it's accessible. Airport is a short
distance south of SR20 at the end of Superior Ave past (and beneath) the
high school. Lazuli Buntings were not hard to find, even in town, and I once
encountered a small flock, both sexes, apparently passing thru on the south
Skagit near Ovennell's Farm. Good birding!
