If I remember correctly, you need the Discover Pass to park at the trail head. It's been a few weeks since I've been there and I've gone to a lot of other spots since then, so someone else please correct me if I'm wrong.

Is this area not posted, requiring to obtain a permit from the Wanapum State Park?

The black-throated sparrows at Vantage are much easier to find in the early morning. They only time I've missed them was when I tried around noon. Early in the morning they are usually singing in the area of the excellent directions given by Walter.
