The Vantage road/trailhead to the Black-throated Sparrow location was posted
long before the Discover Pass system existed. I long avoided the area before
finally contacting the State Parks people. They informed me that the posting
and permit requirement is for vehicles, not for walkers/hikers. The gate is
always locked anyway, so the posting seems a bit redundant. Hikers are
welcome in that area.

I assume that a Discover Pass is *also* required there now, under the new
statewide regulations.
