Hi All,

My brother Dan and I had success with the EASTERN MEADOWLARK in
Marblemount today. It just may have a mate (Western??). On one occasion,
a duller meadowlark perched briefly below it before diving back into the
grass. Regardless, the EAME spent much of its time a bit of a distance
to the sw. as one stands at the head of the driveway (marked 60345).
Look toward the sw at a distant lone power pole with transformer and
check the lone dark wood fence post or few small shrubs sticking up from
the grass that are about on the same line of sight but less distant than
the pole. It did fly north beyond the lane once so it does move around a
bit.

This is an amazing bird to have show-up in our state (or maybe to have
identified in our state is more appropriate wording). Kudos to Ryan for
nailing its song and noting the subtle plumage differences.

It does appear to be on-territory especially given the presence of this
other meadowlark so it may be well worth the trek up to the upper Skagit
Valley.

Cheers and good birding,
