Hello Hank,

I love my iPod. I bought it for bird ID apps, a Spanish-English
dictionary, and to carry my music with me. I then discovered that,
since it has a web browser and can use public wi-fi, that I could
check my email at internet cafes and such, which has been very
useful. There are a wealth of free and inexpensive apps (though the
birding apps tend to cost more) that can be useful or fun. So if you
think you might change your mind and start using other apps, the iPod
is great to have and probably hosts the best array of apps.

Many apps are also offered for non-iPod devices. If you are dead
certain you want only birding apps, I'd suggest you first determine
which apps you want, then see what devices they are available for,
and then make your decision. If you have a mobile phone, you may be
able to find a phone (e.g. Android) compatible with your carrier that
will also host your app. One less device to haul around

Best wishes,
Marc Hoffman
