Subject: mt. rainier white-tailed ptarmigan status review

The USFWS today announced a 90-day finding that listing the Mt. Rainier white-tailed ptarmigan may be warranted under the ESA. They are initiating a status review; comments will be taken til 6 Aug 2012.

These birds inhabit the north Cascades, but apparently not the Olympics, or in Idaho or Montana. They live generally above tree line, which in the north Cascades is defined as about 2,000 meters (6,600 ft). So even if they are proposed for listing, we're unlikely to encounter them in any of our projects, unless maybe we get involved in supporting some higher-altitude military activity or another agency.
