Hello,
I live along the Brady Loop in Grays Harbor and have had a tremendous number of yellow-headed grosbeaks at my feeder in the last two weeks. Have other people noticed increased numbers this year?
Also, I'd appreciate help identifying a bird I have only heard. It seems to like the marshy pastureland near our creek. The song is a long series of evenly spaced tones on the same pitch--sometimes as many as 21 in a row. It starts on a slightly lower pitch, rises about a 4th and sings that pitch between 7 and 21 times, then falls back to the original pitch. I've lived here 15 years and can't remember hearing this bird before. Please solve this mystery for me!
Good birding,
Carol Boyer
