This past Sunday June 10th a friend and I were at Nisqually NWR looking at
the Caspian Terns and Herons. Out of the corner of my eye I spot an Eagle
circling overhead. I was able to get my camera fixed onto it and then
noticed it was in a dive after a Great Blue Heron. The two birds had quite
a nice dogfight in the air for about two minutes with the Eagle leaving
without his lunch. The Eagle came within a couple of inches of the Heron
with it's talons almost out. Check out the link below for my shots of this:

I have read about Eagles attacking empty Heron nests looking for eggs or
young but never going after a full size bird. Is this common and I am
just not noticing it?
