Hi Tweets, Sorry it took this long to get this out. Last month at Magnuson Park I witnessed a first for me. At the north shore boat recreation area I saw what I thought was a Bald Eagle in the water about 1/4 mile off shore. And sure enough it was a Bald Eagle. I took a series of photos of the eagle trying to lift what I think was a Common Merganser out of the water but it appeared to be too heavy (if somone has a different id on the prey please let me know). It couldn't get the duck out of the water so it started to swim, with its wings, towing the duck toward shore. It appears the the initial capture of the duck was a joint effort by the eagle in the water and its mate who kept flying by. The swimming exercise was interrupted by a curious kyaker and the eagle abandoned its prey and headed toward shore. After the kyak passed the eagle's mate snatched the duck out of the water and flew off toward shore. The eagle who abandoned the prey was exhausted and landed on an old power pole on park property to recover and dry off. I hope the eagle that made it to shore with the duck saved some left-overs for its mate's efforts. It was quite an exciting morning.I tried to put these photos in order so it is best viewed as a slide show. If you want to see the captions click on show info on the slide show page. Hope you enjoy.
