Visiting Tri-Cities on the occasion of the 16u Triple Crown tournament this
last weekend, did not manage much birding but slipped out early yesterday
for a couple hours near our hotel. Bateman Island in n.w. Kenniwick was
my goal. We'd had a nice team BBQ the night prior nearby, and I noted some
decent habitat near the river at Columbia Park and made a plan to check
a couple spots on the way to Bateman. It paid off: a singing male N.
PARULA was very accomodating at about 7:30 a.m. I pished for the bird
and it approached within 20 ft., I attempted photos which don't seem to have
worked, but if I find the bird in the jumble of branches I photographed,
I'll post to the Flickr site.

The spot where the bird was found was at Camp Kiwanis, just east of Bateman
I. The bird flew between several taller trees here, including both native and
non-native ones like an ornamental spruce. Otherwise the birds here and
nearby were pretty much the usual ones you would expect for the area,
including a couple N. CATBIRDS out on Bateman.
