Louise,

I would agree with the voice. I spent 3 years on the Olympic Peninsula in the 90s and the ?small beach? crows definitely have a distinct sound of their caws which is not like any interior crow I have ever heard. By the way these crows have the same voice and beach scavenging behavior as the crows I had a chance to watch when I worked in SE Alaska a few years ago.

Voice has a lot to do with it. I spent a lot of time listening to the small crows on the beaches of the northwestern Olympic peninsula before I called them north-western. There is a very distinctive sound to the crows in that area.

Hi,
What exact criteria do TWEETERS birders use for distinguishing Northwestern Crows in Washington state? It's a problem that's been bothering me for some time, and I'd love to know what others think...
Also, are there ebird/ ebird reviewer rules on this?
Cheers,
