On June 5 there were lots of birds out around the bay, , so I drove around to the north side. At the fish hatchery ,nw side of the bay was a GREENHERON.thats the first one I've ever seen there .infact I haven't seen one here for a few years and usually it's in September on one of the docks... But there are a lot of small fish in there,duh...
I went back several times , no more GREEN HERON.
Re : PURPLE MARTINS. There used to be a strong population here thanx to Stan Kostka and many gourds. We have 5 gourds on our dock. There have been a few PUMA here, sort of hit and miss. Often it's really early like 5:30 am. Today one female was there about 2pm.they seem to like higher tides ,calm weather .A pair of TREE SWALLOWS use one gourd and for the last few days display ardent mating behavior...
EUR,. STARLINGS also nest there,sadly.
A couple of other interesting sightings include a GREAT HORNED OWL in the forest above the cemetery 4 days ago and a few MARBLED MURRELETS. Today I saw 2 out in front of Mission beach.One was fishing. It would make a shallow dive and about a dozen tiny fish would leap out of the water.sort of like a mini bait ball. Hopefully he got a few fish!
