Hi tweeters, my dad , friend Casey and I got back thursday evening from
a 4 day trip, from b-ham to walla walla and back plus stopping in olympia
and port orchard on the return. Great trip with a total of 154 species.

Vantage hwy/ Recreation dr
Sage thrasher
loggerhead shrike
lark sparrow
2 Black throated sparrow
common loon
common merganser
caspian tern
rock wren
mountain bluebird

Potholes looking for the Least tern, no luck
2 black throated sparrow, 1mile after turning off the Frontage rd onto
gravel, the rd bends just after water and trees on both sides of the rd, by
some powerlines. They were on the right side of the rd in the sage.

lots of ducks and songbirds

hwy 28/ Wilson creek, no luck with ferruginous hawk or tricolord blackbird
3 Franklin's gull (brooks lake)

3 ferruginous hawk (along hwy 28)
barn owl

Reardan ponds
1 red necked phalarope
2 wilson's phalarope
1 female canvasback
lots of other breeding ducks

Medical lake/ area did not have much time and missed grasshopper and clay
collared sparrows.

camped that night with western screech owls around our campsite.

2nd day up to Biscuit ridge rd

Bennington lake we met a very nice group of birders who gave us great tips
on some birds in the area, thanks so much

Columbia park for the n. parula which was very successful with great looks
and photos. A very fun and beautiful bird that we did not expect to see!

Walla Walla river delta

Little change of plans as we decided to go to yakima area and south for Ash
throated flycatcher and lesser goldfinch.

wednesday morning headed to Fort Simcoe
2 ash throated flycatcher

down to the Columbia river/ Lyle area into the oak/ ponderosa pine forest
3 ash throated flycatcher (2 balch rd cemetery, 1 at rowland lake)
3+ lesser goldfinch (balch rd cemetery) very cooperative birds allowing us
t get 5ft away and get great looks and photos.

Last day started off at Capitol forest

Port Orchard could not find mountain quail but did find

Took the Port Townsend ferry and found
pigeon guillemot
rhino auklet
marbled murrelet
common murre
western and g. winged gull

Deseption Pass state park
hooded merganser
pelagic cormorant

Last stop of the trip was at west 90 which turned out very well, with a
short eared owl soaring over the field to the west.


It was a very fun trip seeing some great birds and getting to experience
some knew habitats
