Hi Tweets,

There were 5 RED-NECKED PHALAROPES on Mud Lake, just north of
Republic, Sunday (6-24-12) evening. This is not a common species for
Ferry County and this seems fairly late for their passing through in
migration. But pass through they did because we could not relocate
them Monday morning. There were also about 10 COMMON NIGHTHAWKS over
the lake Sunday evening. We had just come from Trout Creek Road where
we had been listening for NORTHERN WATERTHRUSHES. A friend had heard a
number of them calling along that road on Saturday afternoon while we
were vainly looking for them on Gold Creek Road. By Sunday evening
there was still one waterthrush present and calling so loudly that
even I could hear it. Trout Creek Road was pretty birdy for 7 p.m. We
saw Common Yellowthroats, Yellow Warblers, Western Wood-Pewees, and
Willow Flycatchers, among others. In two days of searching we never
saw or heard a Nashville Warbler, which should be an easy bird for
Ferry County. At least the search was fun.

The Great Gray Owls have dispersed after their nest failed in the
usual spot on the Okanogan National Forest above Bunch Road in
Okanogan County. But nesting Northern Saw-whet Owls and Williamson's
Sapsuckers were fair consolation.

cheers,
