I haven't posted about Everett Whimbrels since 6/22 because I wore out the W key on my keyboard and had to buy a new one. Actually I was just plumb tired of posting about Whimbrels over and over and over!

But I'm not tired of Whimbrels, and have been seeing them everyday since 6/10. As I don't get out of town much, seeing a Whimbrel is always great! Why, I wanna see a Whimbrel every chance I get! Saw 5 just this morning - warmly lit in the morning sun at 8am.

Also of note was the arrival of that wonderful Puget Sound Summer resident - Fog. This week brought marine Fog to Everett and I alway's enjoy it's antics. Sure it's just a bunch of water vapor, but the way it comes and goes, the way it moves around, sometimes reminds me of a sort of huge grey animal on the landscape. It lurks here, moves there, advance's, retreats - disappears. This morning, Fog provided a wonderful cool backdrop to sunlit Whimbrels.

Now that Whimbrels have been here in Everett for 18 days straight I've had plenty of time to ask the question: "what are they doing here". Looking it up in that excellent resource book "Birds of Washington: status and distribution" (Wahl/Tweit/Mlodinow) I noted that the Everett birds are either late or early. The book also notes Whimbrels as being uncommon local non-breeding residents in w. Washington, which is news to me. Like I said, I don't get out of Everett much.

At any rate Whimbrel's in Everett , or anywhere else, are cool!
