Hi Tweeters,

Yesterday (6/27/12) I was joined by Becky Kent and Anne Kahle for a day of
birding in Klickitat County. We arrived at the west end of Six Prong Road a
bit before 9 AM and were nearly immediately rewarded with nice looks at a
soaring FERRUGINOUS HAWK off to the north. About 5 miles east there was a
SAGE THRASHER singing at the roadside and less than a half mile farther we
saw what appeared to be a family group of 3 LOGGERHEAD SHRIKES and later in
the morning had another pair of Loggerheads on Sandridge Road. We spent 40
minutes in the area indicated by Rick Taylor, but were unable to refind the
Black-throated Sparrow they'd seen.

I was impressed by the numbers of ASH-THROATED FLYCATCHERS we saw in this
open habitat and this cavity nester may be taking advantage of the myriad
bluebird boxes in the area as we saw a few pairs hanging out near a nest
box.

In the afternoon we were able to find at least 2 ACORN WOODPECKERS at the
Grayback Road site reported by the Taylors. Much more satisfying looks at
this stunning woodpecker than at the traditional Balch Road area granary
tree.

A good time was had by all and Anne & I added a few county birds only to be
trumped by Becky's 11 lifers.
