Tweeters, Hiked down the coast beginning at Shi Shi Beach trail head. The trees were dripping with Wilson's Warblers and Brown Creepers the entire two miles to the coast. Once at the beach we camped over night and heard many Orange-crowned Warblers as well as Bald Eagles, Cedar Waxwings, Pigeon Guillemonts, and Caspian Terns. We hiked around Point of Arches Thursday and along the coast about 7 miles and saw Black Oystercatchers, more Pigeon Guillemonts, and a couple of Marbled Murrelets. Once at the Ozette river campground we had Common Mergansers, Bald Eagles, and Harlequin Ducks. Near constant rain drove us to ford a chest deep Ozette river on Friday morning to hike out a day early. Near the archaeological site near Cape Alava were many Black Oystercatchers, Western Sandpipers, Great Blue Herons, and several Whimbrels feeding amongst the rocks. Of note (for me anyway) were the hundreds of Red Crossbills seen and heard along the shoreline in the trees. They were flying and feeding together in large flocks of 5-50. I have never seen or heard so many of these birds. Cheers, Amy SchillingerRenton, WAschillingera at hotmail.com
