I'm writing to ask our tweeters community to spread the word about the upcoming 2012-2013 Master Birder class. Applications are due by May 5, 2012 (changed today from May 12th), and will soon be available on the Seattle Audubon website (see link below), along with a schedule of dates and times to take the entrance examination.

The Master Birder program offers birders a wonderful opportunity both for in-depth learning about the birds of Washington, and for becoming a birder who fosters learning in others through volunteer service.

This year's Master Birder program will feature Dennis Paulson offering one or two lectures a week, plus guest lecturers. There will be full-class and optional smaller group field trips, and weekly birding by ear sessions linked to season, habitat, and species groups. There will also be homework designed to reinforce the material as well as teach master birders how to foster lifelong learning.

Classes will begin September 24th, with two evening classes weekly (except November 21st) through December 5th. The winter/spring section will run from February 18th until April 29th, 2013.

Seattle Audubon will host an informational meeting: "Interested in Becoming a Master Birder?" at the Center for Urban Horticulture, Douglas Classroom, 7-9 PM, April 11th, 2012.

Graduates of previous Master Birder classes will lead a series of short local field trips between April 11th and May 12th for people interested in learning more about what the Master Birder program entails. Dates, locations, and sign-up information will be posted on the Seattle Audubon website once they are finalized.
