Despite nearly two feet of snow on the ground (beginning to melt), spring
birds are arriving. Sunday, two Says Phoebes arrived here. Robins were
singing all over Winthrop on Sunday. Today four Violet-green Swallows
arrived and yesterday Ken saw a Mountain Bluebird near the Methow Wildlife
Area headquarters above Pearrygin Lake. And again here at home, the Pygmy
Nuthatches are excavating new cavities in our siding. Also today, I saw a
female Northern Flicker. Males have been around all winter. I wonder where
the females go?
