Thanks to the precise directions from list members, we arrived at Boundary
Bay around noon today (Tuesday). The parking along the street stretched for
blocks, and the photographers, walkers, bicyclers, kids, and dogs ranged
along the dike path to observe the 13 snowy owls we counted. Only 4 people
ventured off the path, and they were mostly far out on the shore.

I had read the descriptions and the comments on tweeters about the owls but
was still bowled over by the size and beauty of the owls. What magnificent
birds! Only one flew while we were there but a harrier flew right by us and
a great blue heron soared over the fields behind. As I am recovering from a
knee fracture, I was especially fortunate to see birds so close and still -
I had to walk only a short distance on the level ground of the path.

In addition, the ride up I5 was spectacular - the evergreens drooped with
fresh snow and the deciduous trees along the highway sparkled with a snow
icing against the clear blue sky, but we just late enough that any ice on
the road had melted.
