Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday March 8. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at

On March 1 a SNOWY OWL was observed flying across Yaquina Bay. A TROPICAL
KINGBIRD was at the Hatfield Science Center in Newport March 4. Good numbers
of RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRDS now pilling up along the south coast, about two weeks
later than usual. The first reached Astoria February 28, and at Portland
March 4, both at regularly expected time.

On March 3 a juvenile GLAUCOUS GULL was in Scappoose Bottoms. A BLUE GOOSE
is still being seen among the large SNOW GOOSE flock on Sauvie Island. Large
numbers of SANDHILL CRANES are now on the island and the GOLDEN EAGLE and
HARRIS?S SPARROW are still along Rentenaar Road. Two SHORT-EARED OWLS are
still at Broughton Beach near the Portland Airport. A BLACK PHOEBE is now
being seen at Whitaker Park in northeast Portland.

On March 4 a GOLDEN EAGLE was at Finley NWR. The Alvadore MOCKINGBIRD
continues to be seen. On March 1 a BRANT was at Whitehorse Park near Grants
Pass.

On March 2 a TREE SPARROW was chasing a SAY?S PHOEBE at Ladd Marsh near
LaGrande. The REDPOLLS, WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS, and PINE GROSBEAKS continue
along Tumalo Creek west of Bend. Four PINE GROSBEAKS were seen March 2 at
the Meissner Snow Park east of Mt. Bachelor. On March 6 a WESTERN KINGBIRD
was at the Redmond Sewage Ponds.
