hi ... Gene and I went to Ilwaco today to see the Yellow-billed Loon
again ... he was still there ... and is he a pig !!! ... we saw him
constantly eating crabs and crayfish ... a really nice couple from
Spokane (sorry, cant remember their names) were also there
photographing the Loon ... meanwhile the Loon was popping up on all
sides of the docks and boats so having four of us looking for him was
very helpful ... a couple of the fishermen working on their boat also
got into the act and would come and point him out to us ... seems
like someone was constantly calling out "he's behind you" ... (grin) ...
on the way back we encountered a huge flock of Scoters near Chinook
Point ... we pulled over when we could to watch them ... easily 200
Surf Scoters with at least 80% of those being male ... also saw about
5 or 6 White-winged Scoters, all male, and only one Black Scoter,
also male ... first time I've seen that many Scoters all together and
they were impressive to watch ...
