hi all ... Gene and I went to Whitaker Ponds (Portland, near the
airport) today to find the Black Phoebe ... we walked all around and
found LOTS of birds but no Black Phoebe ... this was our first time
there and it's a very enjoyable place ... a little oasis of birding
life within the buildings and industry and mom-and-pop places ...
however we did find a Anna's Hummingbird on her nest !!!!!!!!!! ...
that's almost more difficult than finding a Black Phoebe ...
we then went over to Washougal on the Washington side and spent an
hour sitting and wandering around looking for the Red-naped Sapsucker
... no luck on him ... we did have 2 Pileateds and one Red-breasted
Sapsucker come through however ... nice entertainment ...
we thought about heading up to Round Lake to see if the Tufted Duck
was there but since we already were 0 for 2 on the day we decided the
odds weren't in our favor ... (GRIN) ...
