I'm not weather guy, but I have lived in Astoria for 25 years
and I pay attention to the weather forecasts.

Yes, there's a storm coming. Yes, there's a high wind warning
in effect. There's nothing about this one that raises it above
what we normally get between November and April. 70kt gusts and
40-50kt sustained winds (along beaches and headlands) is, believe
it or not, normal.

The weather service posted this:

MONDAY AFTERNOON.

* WINDS: SOUTH WINDS 30 TO 45 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 70 MPH. STRONGEST
WINDS ARE EXPECTED ALONG THE CENTRAL OREGON COAST...AND IN
GENERAL NEAR NEAR BEACHES AND HEADLANDS.

* TIMING: WINDS INCREASING LATE TONIGHT. PEAK WIND GUSTS ARE
EXPECTED TO OCCUR BETWEEN 10 AM AND 5 PM...EARLIEST ON THE SOUTH
WASHINGTON COAST AND LATEST ON THE CENTRAL OREGON COAST.

The satellite imagery does not show any deep well developed cyclones
or even associated frontal bands. Hyperbole is probably not in order.

HOWEVER, if you're interested in seeing a HORNED PUFFIN or some other
interesting seabirds without the pain and anguish seasickness. The
two days after this event will be good days for beach walks.
