Last evening around 6:30pm while driving north on West Snoqualmie Valley
Road toward Monroe, I saw what looked like a dead trumpeter swan in the
field east of the road; it was raining hard and I couldn't get a very clear
view though. I reported it to the WDFW hotline right away. I'm wondering
if anybody else might have seen this bird. I was scanning the valley for
birds as I usually do while driving this road (on a more positive note I saw
at least 5 or 6 red tail hawks perched on fenceposts along the road within a
4-mile area, as well as an immature bald eagle in a tall tree not far from
one of the hawks). The swan was located at the south edge of the shallow
ponded/flooded area in the valley east of the road I was on. My location at
the time of sighting was just south of Mt. Forest Blvd. Anybody else travel
this road and if so, did you see anything? Further north, in the field west
of Crescent Lake I saw 17 swans, and in another nearby field east of the old
reformatory farm I saw a half dozen or so along a fencerow -- all seemed
healthy from a distance.
