The Steigerwald Lake NWR MUTE SWAN was first spotted by Ken Knittle on Feb. 6, 2006, and has been here ever since then, except for brief periods during extreme cold and high winds when the water freezes over. I haven't found where it goes during the storms but he returns as soon as the ponds thaw out. Wilson Cady

Has anyone seen the mute swan(s) observed at the Steigerwald Lake area along
the Columbia River? They were reported on the CBC. Are they (or it) still
there? Seen somewhere else?

Also, any reports of mute swans in the Olympia area outside of Long Lake
this past year?
