Dear Tweets -

Leonel Herrera Alsina, a young Mexican grad student in ornithology at UNAM
in Morelia, has been awarded a Latin American Travel Award to attend this
year's North American Ornithology Conference Aug 14-20 in Vancouver. Hip
Hip Hooray.

The award, however, doesn't completely cover his travel expenses from
Morelia, Michoacan to Seattle/Vancouver and back to Michoacan. I know how
generous Pacific Northwesterners are, especially the birding community, and
I am posting this note to ask if members of this forum can give him
additional help.

He will fly to Seattle Aug 13 and must be at UBC the next day.

Is anyone from the Seattle area planning to drive to the conference and be
willing to give Leonel a lift? (He will have both USA and Canadian visas.)

Also is there anyone near UBC who would house/feed him for the duration of
the conference? $47/day is a HUGE sum for a Mexican grad student to pay.

Leonel is an exceptional birder, and his area of study concerns birds and
wind-powered energy. He speaks English (alas, better than my Spanish).

Please email me off list if you can help.
