According to "Birding in the San Juan Islands" (Lewis and Sharpe, 1987)
Black-capped Chickadees are rare in the San Juans. However looking at eBird
I see quite a few records for Black-capped Chickadee in the San Juans,
especially on San Juan Island. I realize this book may be out of date now
and so was wondering if the Black-capped Chickadee's status has changed in
the past 20 years. Increasing development on the island could possibly
account for this if it is the case. I visit the island for several days
every year in mid-March and have not noted them but I am usually
concentrating on water birds in any case.
