There was a winter plumage Ruddy Duck around the docks and piers
at the end of Semiahmoo Spit yesterday near Blaine. This is the
first time I've seen one in Western Wa. How common are they?

The numbers of other ducks present seemed light to me, though
many species were represented. Another birder reported Long-
tailed ducks, which I missed as I have all this season. Lots of
other birds, too, so overall a very good day.
