Seemed like the water was pretty empty this morning at Seward Park. But we
saw some nice birdies nonetheless. 4 grebes: horned, pied-billed, western
and red necked. proto-horns on the horned, and a pretty red neck on the
red-necked. The common goldeneyes were puffing up and throwing their heads
back - impressive! Good looks at ruby-crowned kinglets and a brown
creeper, with a flicker drumming up in the snag above. And the highlight
was a flyover by a pair of sandhill cranes, which we wouldn't have noticed
but for their garbly calls. First time I've seen cranes in the city.
