Amy, I have a Wandering Tattler,
http://www.wanderingtattler.com/tripak1.html, that is built for just
this purpose. I was using it with a camera tripod and long lens, it
was just a bit too tough to deploy with the much heavier weight of my
gear. Even with the heavier weight, I am nearly 20 lbs of gear, it
was quite comfortable to carry.

I would be willing to sell mine at a good discount if you, or anyone
else, is interested. Drop me an email and you can take a look and
give it a try.
