Hi Tweeters,
I am new to birding and Tweeters. Please forgive any breaches in protocol.
Late yesterday afternoon, about 17:30, at the tip of Lake Sammamish in Marymoor Park I saw two birds I believe to be Greater Scaups. My observations are:
- Bill: White, length about 75% of the width of the head, a dark band about 10% from the nail.
- Head: Somewhat oblong shaped, all Black from the breast and throat upwards, except for a white patch surrounding the bill and brown patch between the eyes. Eyes amber, no eye ring.
- Body: Wings solid dark grey. Did not see the birds in flight. Breast and flanks a lighter shade of gray with some black spleckling.
Is it possible to identify these birds?
Thanks,
John
