Dear Barb and Tweeters,
?
This is a fun discussion.
?
Every year in mid-April, since 2005,?I have gone to Camp Orkila on Orcas Island with a bunch of sixth-graders. It's four days, three nights of fun, fun fun--for the kids.?
?
I get a few hours here and there to bird the extensive grounds,?on my school-district-sanctioned breaks, when I'm not on bunk patrol or something.
?
I still have not found a Steller's Jay or a BCCH there at Orkila. Some day I'll have to go there WITHOUT 300 12-year-old kids!
?
Yours truly,
?
Gary

Chestnut-backed Chickadees are fairly common throughout San Juan County, though I will have to check with folks on Waldron and Stuart Islands. We see them on every walk we do and they are common at our feeders. We are working on getting local birders to look more closely for Black-capped especially Orcas and Lopez as it is easier for them to arrive there from the mainland than to San Juan and other islands. We will need to contact more folks on Blakely and some of the Skagit Co San Juan Islands too.
