Hurrah, the Emperor Geese couple are still being observed as of Wednesday,
in Dungeness Bay. What a great treat this will be for people coming to the
Annual BirdFest on the Olympic Peninsula this weekend. We hope you can join
our wonderful celebration of wildlife and natural areas. It's not too late
to register.easily done on line, 24/7, at www.olympicbirdfest.org. The owl
prowls are sold out, as is the all-day Bays and Coasts with Bob Boekelheide,
and one of the Protection Island Cruises (there are two!). The Elwha River
Mouth and Salt Creek County Park has also been filled. There are so many
other great trips scheduled, like the two I'm leading to the Endangered
Waterfowl sanctuary, where we'll have the opportunity to see Spectacled,
King, and Steller's Eiders, Smews, and other Arctic bird species.up close
and personal in beautifully created habitats by renowned breeders Arnold and
Debbie Schouten.

Saturday's banquet has seating available, and at www.olympicbirdfest.org,
you can see many of the items being featured in the silent auction during
the banquet. Olympic National Park's research scientist, Dr. Jerry
Freilich, will be presenting "The Importance of Birds," and I'm hoping he'll
also talk a little about the Elwha dams removal project, where a new salmon
redd has recently been observed in the river above the two dams (Park
officials transported 20 Chinooks last fall).

New this year, we've included a wine tasting and appetizers on Friday night,
and there are two nature photography workshops, one for
beginners/intermediates, and one for intermediates/advanced's. And, if you
can get away another three days (Sunday-Tuesday) for a wonderful cruise to
see wildlife in the San Juan Islands led by Bob Boekelheide, you'll be well
entertained and educated, while enjoying one of Washington's crown jewel
destinations.

"COME BIRD WITH US!" We want to share our beautiful places with you.
