Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday March 29. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at

The YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER continues to be seen at the EE Wilson Wildlife
Area north of Corvallis. The YELLOW-BILLED LOON is still at Ilwaco.

A surge of spring migrants occurred during the week especially among RUFOUS
HUMMINGBIRDS and OSPREYS. There were also movements of shorebirds,
especially GREATER YELLOWLEGS. On March 28 there were 116 BLACK-BELLIED
PLOVERS on Grand Island south of Dayton.

On March 23 two CASPIAN TERNS were at Flores Lake. One was at Astoria March
26. A ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOW was with a swarm of VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOWS March
27 at Coqulle. On March 26 an early TUFTED PUFFIN was at Haystack Rock at
Cannon Beach.

On March 26 a BITTERN, two SAY?S PHOEBES, and two MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRDS were at
Steigerwald NWR near Washougal. A probable GYRFALCON was on Sauvie Island
March 24. Also that day there were three WHITE PELICANS on the island. The
sparrow flock continues along Rentenaar Road including the HARRIS?S SPARROW.
On March 26 a CLAY-COLORED SPARROW was with the flock. An early CLIFF
SWALLOW was seen March 24 at Lake Oswego. An out-of-place SANDHILL CRANE was
near Dayton March 23. On March 24 seven CINNAMON TEAL and 16 WHITE PELICANS
were at Fern Ridge Reservoir.

A very early CALLIOPE HUMMINGBIRD was at a Bend feeder March 22. On March 23
a WILLIAMSON?S SAPSUCKER was at Wickiup Reservior. A VESPER SPARROW was in
LaGrande March 23.

SAGE GROUSE are now moving onto their leks. Now is the time to plan a visit.
