On a trip to Cave Creek in the Chiracahua Mountains of Arizona, we hiked miles up canyon at dawn. We heard the call of the Elegant Trogon, and followed it down canyon for several miles, without a sighting. We were resting under some Sycamores, and a beautiful male came flying in and perched directly above us, and lingered for about 5 minutes before flying off.

An American Robin was perched directly below the Trogon, and that is when it struck me that the Robin, by being so commonplace, is truly special.
