Hi Tweets:
It was fairly quiet down on 204th today, although there is still plenty of water in the big pond. 5 Greater Yellowlegs were there. At least 30 Yel-rumped Warblers (Zippy Butterbutts - thanks Jeff). They were zippy as heck, flycatching and singing. A couple of Or-cnd Warblers were there singing. Over behind the water retention ponds north of the 204th ditch, in a seasonal pond to the NW were 50 Canada Geese, 2 GREATER WHT-FRONTED GEESE, and a CACKLING GOOSE. You need to walk out to the center by the construction shed to see into that back pond and see all the grassy weeds where the geese feed.
Many Yel-rmps and Or-crowned Warblers are here in Des Moines too. As usual after the Orange Crowns have been here for awhile singing (they arrived here Apr 4th), the Bewick's Wrens start doing a pretty good imitation of their song. The wrens have been singing that song for about 2 days now. It's confusing.
Yours, Carol Schulz
Des Moines
