Tweeters, This is the third year running that a male Calliope Hummingbird has appeared at our feeders in May. I was hoping to see him this year, so after a day up in Bremerton, upon our return at 6 pm this evening, I staked out one of our five feeders. Within a few minutes he made a brief appearance before being chased off by a Rufous male. Eventually he managed to spend a minute or two at the feeder so Kevin and I had great views. I first saw a male Calliope in the yard on May 6, 2010. My second sighting was a male on May 3, 2011, then Kevin and I saw him again on the following day. Is it unusual for a Calliope to turn up regularly at the same site in Western WA during migration? Sandy Daniels, Enumclaw Plateau, King co.Ladyhawk707 AT msn DOT com
