Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report

On April 30 a bright male ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK was photographed at the
caretakers feeders at Clyde Holliday State Park west of John Day.

Heavy migrations continued during the week with peak numbers of shorebirds
reported, with flocks of thousands of WESTERN SANDPIPERS and DUNLIN reported
along the coast. Flocks of EVENING GROSBEAKS are now being reported in the
Willamette Valley and on the eastern slopes of the Cascades. Single
SWAINSON?S THRUSHES were near Brookings, and near Flores Lake and two at
Coos Bay during the week.
VAUX?S SWIFTS were reported during the week at many chimney roosts. On April
27 about 2500 were at Agate Hall in Eugene, over 1000 were at Portland?s
Chapman School April 29 and over 1500 were at an Astoria chimney May 2.

A GLAUCOUS GULL was reported April 29 at Gold Beach and April 27 at Bandon.
On April 29 a SANDHILL CRANE was with 3000 WHIMBREL near Langlois. Among the
many birds seen on the April 28 offshore trip out of Coos Bay were two
HORNED PUFFINS. On April 29 male LONG-TAILED DUCKS were at Coos Bay and at
Florence. At least 3000 SURF SCOTERS were on the Siuslaw River near Florence
April 28. The next day two TATTLERS were near Florence. Among the swarms of
shorebirds along Wireless Road in Astoria April 30 were a LONG-BILLED
CURLEW, 130 WHIMBREL, and 120 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS.

On April 20 a SAGE THRASHER was at Ridgefield NWR. Swigert Road at the
Troutdale Airport continues with a CLAY-COLORED SPARROW, LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE,
and two WESTERN KINGBIRDS there during the week. A GOLDEN EAGLE is now at
Smith/Bybee Lakes in North Portland. Another was seen May 2 south of
McMinnville. On April 29 a LONG-BILLED CURLEW, BLACK-NECKED STILT, and an
EARED GREBE were at Ankeny NWR. On May 1 five WHIMBREL were reported there.

On April 30 a pair of RED-NECKED GREBES were seen on a pond on the west side
Hwy 205 north of Wrights Point south of Burns.
